Professional Licensure Disclosure

Federal regulation requires all schools to disclose information to admitted students about their degree programs if the degree is advertised as leading to a professional license. Per U.S. Federal Regulations, §668.43 (2019 Rule), and in compliance with the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA) Manual version 19.2, Roberts Wesleyan College provides the following information for programs which may lead to professional licensure or certification.

School of Business

Roberts Wesleyan College has received specialized accreditation for its business programs through the IACBE (located at 11374 Strang Line Road in Lenexa, Kansas, USA). 

Our accounting program is registered with the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) and meets the educational requirements for C.P.A. licensure and, in general, to corresponding examinations and licensure in other states. Students seeking C.P.A. licensure within another state should review educational requirements of their respective state to insure that the program meets specific state requirements. The student should also review if additional coursework may be required in other states to sit for the C.P.A exam and obtain licensure.

School of Education and Social Work

Teacher Education Programs

Roberts Wesleyan University's teacher education programs are accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). Pursuant to §52.21 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, the educator preparation programs offered by Roberts Wesleyan University are considered to be continuously accredited to meet the New York State requirement that all such programs maintain continuous accreditation.

In preparation for the next accreditation cycle, the Department of Teacher Education regularly reviews and revises key assessments to measure students’ growth and determine program effectiveness in several areas. Teacher candidates will achieve Roberts Wesleyan University’s measures of excellence in educational settings through challenging academics, self-reflection, and rich clinical experiences.

If you seek certification outside of New York State, you may be required to take state-specific tests or fulfill other requirements to achieve licensure. Please contact your state department of education for more information about licensure.

Social Work Programs

Our BSW and MSW programs are accredited by the Council for Social Work Education (CSWE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). CSWE and CHEA require all accredited schools of social work to post their student assessment data on their university's website. These reports are updated every other year and provide benchmarks for the achievement of the core competencies associated with our BSW and MSW programs. A degree from RWU's MSW program provides the educational requirement for both LMSW and LCSW licensure in New York State. More information on social work licensure in New York State can be found through the NYS Office of the Professions website. School of Natural and Social Sciences

Psychology Programs

The graduate programs in School Psychology and Doctor of Psychology are approved by the New York State Board of Regents. The graduate program in School Psychology is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and leads to certification in New York state, with eligibility in many other states, and National certification through NASP. The Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree in Clinical/School Psychology, which leads to eligibility for licensure in New York, is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). We are also currently a Doctoral Program Associate (DPA) member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral & Internship Centers (AAPIC).

Medical Technology Program 

Students who complete our B.S. in Medical Technology are eligible to take the board of registry exam given by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Passage of the exam results in national board certification.   Students are also eligible for licensure through the New York State (N.Y.S.) Education Department Office of the Professions.  For more information regarding licensure in your state, please consult your state department of education.

Candidate Occupational Therapy Program

The entry-level occupational therapy doctoral degree program has applied for accreditation and has been granted Candidacy Status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 6116 Executive Boulevard, Suite 200, North Bethesda, MD 20852-4929. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-AOTA and its web address is www.acoteonline.org. The program must be granted Candidacy Status, have a pre-accreditation review, complete an on-site evaluation, and be granted Accreditation Status before its graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination.  Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.  For more information regarding occupational therapy licensure, please consult your state department of education.

School of Nursing

The baccalaureate and masters programs in nursing at Roberts Wesleyan College are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org) and registered by New York State

Every state requires registration and licensure to practice nursing. Upon completion of the undergraduate nursing program at Roberts Wesleyan, graduates have met the education requirements to take the national licensing exam, NCLEX-RN.  Additionally, graduates are eligible to apply for a license to practice as a R.N. in New York State.  To determine the registration and licensure requirements for a specific state, please contact the Board of Nursing for that state.
